ANGELS REMEMBERED is a project that was started in the Winter of 2001 in rememberance of my son and all children of bereaved parents. These parents have asked that I try and use the word angels in the title of my project and this is why I chose "Angels Remembered." Our angels will always be remembered by we, who love them dearly.
Three years ago, I made 250 wooden sleds and went to our local Children's Hospital and gave them away to all the kids there. Each sled was monnogrammed with the child's name. Every year we will be asking for donations of one stuffed animal from any bereaved parent, family member, or even a friend of a bereaved parent who would like to contribute to this project. A stuffed animal can be bought for as less as $5.50. Please put your child's name, birthdate and heaven date in with the animal. If you have a photo that you would like to have put on this website in honor of your child, we will be more than happy to do that for you, but you do NOT have to donate an animal in order for your child's picture and information to be posted to this site. I have my son's photo on three different websites. I'm sure it would mean as much to you as it does to me.
I also ask that if you would like to donate a stuffed animal of your choice, that you try and keep it approximately 12" to 13". In all fairness to the children at the hospitals, the animals should be about the same size. My son loved sharks, therefore I will buy a stuffed shark animal in his memory. Some of you may want to purchase a teddy bear, a dog, or some other animal. Perhaps even a stuffed "pillow-type" angel.
All the animals must be NEW. This is the regulation of the local hospitals for health purposes. The animals will have a card attached to them IN MEMORY OF (your child's name). If you want to donate an animal and you are not a bereaved parent, the card will have DONATED BY (your name). Many people have asked if they could donate for a friend who is a bereaved parent and the answer is .... YES, you can. I also will send a card to that parent and tell them that you are donating a stuffed animal in their child's memory.
I am working with the Tuscaloosa County, Alabama Police Department. We will donate animals to the officers for use in the event of car accidents, tornado victims, etc... I also work with child abuse centers. We all know how a small child can be frightened in situations such as these. Many times when small children are brought into a police station late at night, they are comforted by hugging a stuffed animal.
I will be working with ABC television network on this project. They are more than willing to offer a hand. I would like the bereaved parents out there to realize that we will always find a way to keep our child's memory alive. I want everyone to know that you are NOT alone. There is support for you and we at Whispers of the Heart and Angels Remembered will help you in any way that we can.
I believe by doing this, our children's memory will never lessen. In all the years since my own son died, I have not forgotten a thing about the five short years he was in my life. After time has passed, our family and friends go on with their lives, but ours is changed forever. We find many do not want to look us in the eye, nor speak our child's name. This hurts a bereaved parent tremendously. We can't, nor would we want to forget our children. We want our families and friends to talk to us about our child, it is all we have left. I believe being involved in this will help parents and also help the sick children in hospitals. I know I refuse to let time lessen my son's memory.
We also have a candle lighting page on this website and each child that we add to our site will have a candle lit in their memory. The light of our love will shine forever and ever.
Please sign our guestbook. And when you visit another child's memorial site, feel free to email that parent to let them know that you have visited their site. This means so much to a bereaved parent.
If anyone would like to see my son's memorial site, please visit my angel. I have written some poems for him. My story of our life together is on his site, the love we shared and to show the world how special he was and still is in my life.
